It is one of the most reputed and the oldest schools in Salt Lake. The school started from the academic year of 1979. The Govt. Of West Bengal in consideration of the need of multilingual population of Salt Lake City, sponsored Salt Lake School (Eng.Medium).

On 1st September 1981, the management of the school was handed over to Salt Lake School (Eng. Medium) Society, constituted guardians, teachers, and staff of the school.

The school is managed by an Executive Council. Students are prepared for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (I.C.S.E) and Indian School Certificate Examination (I.S.C) under the Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The school has classes from pre-primary (4+) level to class XII. The first batch of students appeared for the I.C.S.E exam from this school in March 1987 and for the I.S.C Exam in 1991. The school continues to be under the general supervision and guidance of the Deputy Director of School Education, (Anglo-Indian), Government of West Bengal.

Our chief aspiration is not to gift to the world animate knowledge banks, but complete human beings who will work whole heartedly for peaceful and harmonious co-existence of man and nature along with achieving material and spiritual goals in life.We believe that, to build ideal citizens for modern India, we must imbibe in our students sound moral values: the virtues of tolerance, honesty,sincerity, faith in goodness, diligence, courage, foresight, fortitude, fellow feeling, simple living high thinking and pragmatism and adopt measures to develop a strong body and the best manifestation of their inherent talents. Keeping the above goal in mind our school curriculum is an example of perfect match of academic and co-curricular activities.

Salt Lake School (Eng.Med.) is the school that cares. It has always tried to live up to the ideals of Duty, Reverence, Knowledge. The students and the teachers have tried to implement them in their own little ways through school activities and also in their personal lives.
